Cultural Diversity Services
Henderson Community College's Minority Affairs Committee is comprised of faculty and staff. The committee's function is to provide continual assistance to the minority student population before and after enrollment.
The committee offers assistance in the areas of:
admissions
financial aid
career counseling
transfer information
The committee also sponsors several multi-cultural events throughout the academic year.

25, 2010 - 11:00am-1:00pm-Fine Arts Center on Stage Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Program 11:00am-Light Lunch 11:45am-Program-Special Presentation from four Affrilachian Poets, honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King. In 1991, Poet Frank X Walker coined the term “Affrilachian” to describe people of African descent, people of color,…living and working in the region of Appalachian. The Affrilachian Poets eventually grew from an informal writing circle on the University of Kentucky’s campus in the 1990s, cultivated by a burgeoning artistic wave in Lexington and the region. Announcement of the winners from the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Poetry Contest. Presentation of the President’s Award for Diversity.
February 8, 2010 – 4:00pm to 5:00pm The Notorious Steppaz, from Henderson County High School, will perform on stage-Fine Arts Center
February 9, 2010 – 11:30am to 12:45pm Mr. Michael E. Crutcher, Sr. is “The Spirit of Frederick Douglass.” Fine Arts Center. Mr. Crutcher, is a retiree from the United States Army and former assistant professor at University of Kentucky’s Lexington Community College…delivers a riveting presentation that will captivate viewers and listeners of all ages. As Crutcher speaks…you feel Douglass’s human aspect of passion, humor, courage, fury and faith at their best. Frederick Comes to Life! Mr. Crutcher is a devout scholar of Frederick Douglass and believes his calling is to share Douglass principle of freedom, equality, religion and self-esteem.
February 10, 2010 – 11:30am to 1:00pm HCC’s Multicultural Feast - Bring your Favorite Dish! 11:30am- Serving Lines Open 12:00n- Special Program-Guest Speaker- Mr. Daryl L. Harris, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Theatre and Dance, Northern Kentucky University Subject: Lift Evr’y Voice and Sing For African Americans throughout Kentucky and the country, spirituals were the soundtracks upon which the Underground Railroad movement rolled. Freedom songs later helped to pave the way toward true liberation. Because of its particular geographical and political positioning, Kentucky gave birth to its own unique musical expressions. Harris takes the audience on a musical history tour through hurt, healing and happiness.
