Henderson Community College will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. today from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the fine arts center. Dr. Anthony M. Brooks Sr. will be the guest speaker.
Dr. Brooks has served as pastor, educator, and civil rights leader in Henderson and Evansville. During his tenure in education, Brooks served as president of the Indiana State Teachers AssociationŐs Mathematics and Junior High Divisions. Also, as a pastor, Brooks led in the construction of two area churches.
As a leader in the civil rights movement in Henderson, Brooks served as president of the Henderson County NAACP chapter and worked for the desegregation of the city. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Henderson Human Relations Commission. Also, he was nominated for the Kentucky Hall of Fame in 2000.
