Recommendation #4:  The committee recommends that the college provide adequate professional and support staff to allow the library to provide quality services in all of the assigned areas of responsibility.

Critical elements from the Background Information from the SACS Final Report of the Visiting Team:

[Some] evenings and …Sunday hours are staffed without professional assistance.  In addition, these staff must also assist in the computer lab and the tutorial lab, located in the library, when staff supporting in these areas are not available.  The number of [library] staff available during peak hours of operation, evenings and weekends is minimal to provide the variety of services being offered.

Since the visit by the Reaffirmation Committee, the College has interviewed and hired a part-time professional librarian to assist with evening and weekend hours.  Mr. Phillip Orr joins a library staff already consisting of two professional librarians and three library technicians.  Mr. Orr holds an ALA accredited MLS from the University of Illinois and the M.S. degree in Education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.  Funding to increase Mr. Orr’s position to “full-time” status is being requested from the central office of KCTCS for fiscal year 2002.
