SACS Reaffirmation Team Visit
The SACS Reaffirmation Team visit for reaccreditation occurred at the end of October 2000. The library staff worked diligently during the years preceding this visit to ensure departmental success. Areas emphasized in the preparations include the addition of computers and online databases as well as the addition of 100+ program-specific titles to the library’s hardcopy periodical collection. Also, several new videos and audio-visual software were added to the AV collection along with hundreds of new reference titles to the Reference Collection. Finally, a Special Collections and Archives was created to meet growing community interests in genealogy research. Despite these efforts, the Reaffirmation Team made the following recommendations:
- The committee recommends that the college provide the necessary facilities to allow the library to fulfill its mission.
- The committee recommends that the college provide adequate funding to ensure a collection of print and non-print resources that is current and relevant to its instructional programs.
- The committee recommends that the college ensure that all areas of the library collection be reviewed on a regular basis by the faculty and library professional staff to ensure the removal of out-of-date titles.
- The committee recommends that the college provide adequate professional and support staff to allow the library to provide quality services in all of the assigned areas of responsibility.
Responses to these recommendations were forwarded to SACS in HCC’s Response to the Report of the Reaffirmation Committee. Each response included an explanation of measures being taken to address the library’s shortcomings. They are linked along with the respective recommendation and the critical elements identified in the visiting team’s original report.
