1999-00 Notable Accomplishments
Notable Accomplishments
In addition to working on the performance standards of 1999-00, the library staff pursued other important projects. Some of these efforts resulted in the following accomplishments:
- The library’s online catalog (NOTIS) was replaced with Endeavor’s Voyager. The new system permits library patrons to access cataloged information via the Internet. Off-Campus library users have greatly benefited from this improved service.
- New full-text electronic databases were added this past year. Selected databases support HCC’s programs such as Nursing, CLT, and Dental Hygiene. Some of these include Health Source Plus, Clinical Reference Systems, and Facts.Com.
- The library acquired a new interlibrary loan computer workstation (Ariel). This new system is supported by all state libraries and facilitates fast information transfer. HCC students now receive journal titles that used to take 8 days to arrive by mail within 24 hours.
- Audubon prints were donated to the library. Hanging on the walls by the library’s Reference Desk, the library received 4 large prints from Mary Bowling.
- Mary Bowling resigned in January 2000, and was replaced by Barb Cummings in April. Barb joins the staff as Senior Library Technician and will be responsible for circulation services, clerical duties, periodicals, student employees, and limited reference work.
- Six Dell Computers were added to the library to provide patrons with greater access to the library’s electronic databases. These machines were acquired from the CIS Department for $266 per computer.
- The library acquired a used laser printer from the CIS Department to provide better printing services. This printer has been installed next to the Voyager workstations and provides unlimited printing for students. (Free printing is a service the library provides for all students. Costs are defrayed with funds from the library’s photocopier.)
