2001-02 Notable Accomplishments
- The Pathfinder for the Library I was converted to an online format and is now available via the library’s web page. The conversion included the creation of online exams to test students’ abilities to use the library’s collections. This conversion resulted in a Pathfinder that is interactive and accessible to off-campus users.
- A comprehensive de-selection of dated and obsolete materials was completed. This project removed dated books and audio-visual materials in order to make the library’s collections more current and useful. De-selection was emphasized in the materials supporting the following programs: Business; Dental Hygiene; Education; Medical Assisting; Nursing; and Social Services. Over 2,000 items were de-selected, removed from the shelves, the library’s online card catalog (Voyager), and OCLC.
- A database was created to assist in tracking book purchases for the library’s collections. This database tracks purchases by cost or gift status, date, author, title, copyright, call number, and the division(s) or program(s) supported by the items. Access to such information will streamline the library’s ability to determine how much of each year’s book budget supports each academic program. This database includes all items purchased from 2001 forward.
- Dated and no longer functional audio-visual equipment such as projectors, overheads, and cassette players were identified and placed in surplus.
- Desktop publishing efforts included Senior Library Technician, John Merrill, providing assistance to the Admissions Office for the revision of the student admission application form.
