General Admissions
OPEN DOOR POLICY
HCC has an open door policy. This means that any student with a high school
diploma or GED is accepted.
However, certain classes have pre-requisites that must met before enrollment.
This means that you must have successfully completed a certain course or have
a minimal score on an ACT or COMPASS test to be eligible to enroll in these classes.
Admissions Documents
YOU MAY NOT REGISTER FOR A SECOND SEMESTER UNTIL YOU HAVE A COMPLETE ADMISSIONS FILE.
After we have received you application for admissions we will send you a letter from the Admissions and Records Office with a list of documents needed to complete
your admissions file. However, it is best to have all transcripts and test scores
sent directly to the Admissions and Records Office from their source prior to
meeting with your advisor for the first time. This will ensure the best advising
possible based on your academic background.
Program Admissions
Although HCC has an open door policy for general admissions, there are several
programs that require admissions into the program. There may be additional documents
needed that has not been required by the Admissions and Records Office. Some of
these programs are Nursing, Dental Hygiene and Clinical Laboratory Technician.
See program brochures or call the specific department for details.
COMPASS Skills Assessment
All degree seeking students are required to complete COMPASS Skills Assessment
unless they have ACT scores or college courses exempting them from COMPASS. For example, students
must have an ACT score of 18 to be eligible to enroll in ENG 101, a Math score of 18
on the ACT to enroll in Applied Math and a math score or 20 to enroll for College
Algebra. For more information about COMPASS call 270-831-9772.
Pre-registration Session
All first-time college students are required to attend a Pre-registration Session
before they will be allowed to register for classes. If you are a returning HCC, KCTCS
or transfer student, you are not required to attend. However, if you have been out of
college for an extended period of time you may find the information presented in these sessions to be helpful. The main focus of these sessions is to prepare students to meet
with their advisors for the first time. A basic understanding of the class schedule and
the courses needed for entering students will be discussed. You may call the number listed for the COMPASS appointments to schedule a pre-registration session. Also, first-time
college students will receive access information for an on-line version of the Pre-registration Session.
Advising /Registration
You will meet with your advisor to discuss your academic plan and determine the courses
you will take. Your advisor will complete and sign your schedule form and then give you
access to do on-line registration.
Fee Payment
You are responsible for paying your tuition or making arrangements for tuition payment prior
to the advertised fee deadline. This deadline in normally set each semester on or near the
last day of registration. If you have not taken care of your fees by the deadline, you will
be dropped from all classes. If the last date fo enrollment has passed, you will not be able
o enroll after you are dropped.
