Program Curriculum
Coordinator Bridget Murray
The Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education Program offers an Associate in Applied Science Degree and certificates in Child Care. The course of study is designed to develop understanding of young children and their needs.
The goal of this program is to give students knowledge of the intellectual, physical, social and emotional principles critical to working with young children along with the opportunity to apply this knowledge in practical experiences in a variety of early care and education settings. Each required course in the Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education curriculum provides an opportunity for the student to volunteer or observe in an early childhood environment.
This field experience has two objectives: to allow the student the opportunity to experience a realistic early childhood setting and thus be better able to judge his/her compatibility to the career and to provide meaningful on-the-job training experience. Various community agencies are used for laboratory experiences. The demands and importance of work with young children and their families in the early care and education field can lead to a rewarding and challenging career. Jobs may be sought in preschools, child care centers, Head Start centers, child development centers, hospitals, rehabilitation programs, campus and recreational centers.
